| Carlo Chiostri (Italian, 1863-1939) watercolor painting of the interior of the Basilica Di San Francesca, Assisi. Signed lower left and dated 1926. Watercolor on paper. Size: 12.5 inches x 11 inches. This wonderfully detailed work depicts a monk at prayer inside the Basilica at Assisi with its famous frescoes. Carlo Chiostri is best known as the noted illustrator of books about Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. He was born in Florence and is largely responsible for the images which we have today of this fanciful children's character. Condition of the painting is very good. It is in a period frame bearing on the verso a wedding presentation inscription stating that it was purchased in Florence in 1931. | ||
