Loom pulley carved in the shape of a calao bird head at its top, and decorated on the rest of its body with incised lines. Wood, with beautiful dark-brown glossy patina. Africa, Ivory Coast, Guro Peoples. Height: 6 3/4" (17 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Old age crack, old insect infestation at back of bird head (no major damage, no danger), erosion, otherwise good condition. Ex. old French collection.

Small belt hook, its main part of spheric shape, its narrow stem ending in a nice duck head. Large round knob for attachment to a leather belt. Bronze, red and dark-green patina. China, Han Dynasty Period (-206/+220). Height: 1 3/4" (4,3 cm). Very good condition.

Pair of statues of "lohans" (disciples of Buddha), an aged one and a younger one, in monk's robes, kneeling, their hands in praying posture, their faces reflecting a profound inner serenity. Lacquered and gilt wood. China, 18th century, probably earlier. Height: 16 1/4" (41 cm). Obvious signs of great age, lacquering and gilding flaked in some areas, otherwise very good condition. Statue of the God of Medicine, in formal robes, standing on a squarish base and flanked by his two attributes, the lion and the dragon. Rectangular hole at the back to make room for a "votive box", lid missing but some votive documents still remaining. Wood, with remnants of lacquering and gilding. China, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). Height: 9 1/2" (24 cm). Hands and dragon head missing, some flaking, otherwise good condition.

Statue of crowned Buddha, in royal attire, his hands in "bhumisparsa mudra" (taking the Earth as a witness of the veracity of his sayings), sitting cross-legged on a tall throne. A hole at the top of the crown suggests the presence originally of a finial, now gone, while a hole at the back means that the statue was held firmly in a niche via a tenon. Unusual face mask of elongated shape, round pierced through eyes, long and thin nose, open mouth in relief, small chin. Irregular holes around the rim. Wood, dark-brown semi glossy patina. Africa, Ivory Coast, Dan Peoples. Height: 9 5/8" (24,5 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Old insect infestation in some areas (no danger), old and local restoration at forehead and chin (barely visible), otherwise very good condition.

Large wooden helmet mask, with stylized horns alongside the head, small ears, coffee-bean-shaped eyes, long triangular nose, mouth in relief.
