Large face mask of rounded rectangular shape, round forehead, large pierced through eyes, large ears in relief, long nose, mouth open showing teeth, long chin. Wood, with black, partly encrusted patina. Remnants of animal hair glued with black resin under the nose and around the chin to represent a moustache and beard. White metal nailed to the teeth area. Small ritual cup in the shape of a "kapala" (upper section of a skull) with, around its rim, a diademed deity head flanked by two skulls at the front and a skull at the back, the whole piece resting on an oval foot. Large mask, of fierce expression, with protruding forehead and nose, and large, pierced through eyes, nostrils and mouth. The mask is covered with numerous small holes around the eyebrows, under the nose and around the chin, in which animal hair has been inserted and glued with wax. Highly unusual mask, which has kept the original shape of the tree trunk from which it was carved. The mask itself is carved in a kind of "reverse relief", its features hollowed out, except for its nose. One round hole at ear level on each side. Wood, with brown semi-glossy patina. Small Buddhist portable altar ("ghau"), with its lid sliding upwards for opening it and two loops for attachment on its right side. The lid is nicely decorated with an embossed design of a phoenix on top, two dragons on the sides, and the word "Om" in the middle. Silver, with fine darkish patina. Small relief representing Hindu God Ganesha, with his 4 arms, sitting in regal repose on a lotus throne, surrounded by a flaming aureola. Wood, with traces of ritual red pigment. Himalayan Region, 16th Century, probably earlier. Height: 4 1/4" (11 cm). Obvious signs of great age, old insect infestation (treated, no danger), otherwise good condition. Note: this relief was probably part of a very old architectural ornament.
