| Old "phumbu" face mask, of typical triangular shape, with large and low lids, pointed nose, open mouth showing teeth and tiny ears. Wood, with large remnants of red, white and black pigments. A raffia triple coiffe, now gone, was attached to the top, and a raffia beard, also missing, was formerly attached around the chin. Africa, D.R. Congo, Pende Peoples. Height: 9 1/2" (25 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Chips on top, old accident from top to bottom, locally restored, otherwise good condition. | |||||||||||
