Helmet Mask, Makonde Peoples
Helmet mask, in the shape of a large head with human black hair, rather small ears, largely open eyes, thin nose, open mouth with large lips and fine teeth, protruding chin, over a large and short neck. Geometric scarifications all over the face. Wood, entirely hollowed out, with dark pigment over the whole mask except for the eyes. Africa, Mozambique, Makonde Peoples. Height: 8 6/8" (22,2cm). Slight erosion all over, human hair missing in some areas, otherwise good condition. Ex. British collection.
