| Mask representing a long face with flat coiffe, protruding forehead, incised eyebrows, protruding cylindrical eyes, long and well defined nose, small open mouth with two upper fangs, small chin. Irregular holes around rim. Wood, with thick encrusted dark-brown patina. Remains of cloth around rim below ear level. Africa, Nigeria, Ibibio (or maybe Idoma) Peoples. Height: 10 1/4" (26cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand that enhances its strange beauty. Obvious signs of use and great age, erosion in some areas, chip at lower part, otherwise good condition. A rather unusual and fine piece from an old French collection. | |||||||||
