| Mask of round shape, with oval pierced through eyes, large triangular nose, protruding slit mouth, small chin. A raffia and wood coiffe, on which cowrie shells and old glass beads are sewn, is attached to the back of the mask. Also attached beneath the chin, a long rectangular adornment made of raffia and bearing cowrie shells and old glass beads. The mask is made of wood, with fine dark-brown glossy patina. Africa, D.R. Congo (ex Zaire), Luba Peoples. Height (mask only): 9 1/4" (24 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Obvious signs of long use and great age, some parts of coiffe missing, chips in some areas, otherwise very good condition. | |||||||
