| Sutra book lock, cast in the shape of a bodhisattva sitting in "regal repose" posture, his hands resting on his hips, with a square loop on top and bottom for attachment. Both obverse and reverse are identical. Bronze, with dark-green patina. Tibet, 18th century, maybe older. Height: 1 7/8" (4,8 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Very good condition despite some erosion due to age and use. Note: such implement was used to lock the straps that kept a sutra book (a book containing Buddhist texts) closed. | |||||
