Statue of Buddha, China, Ming Dynasty
Statue of Buddha, wearing diadem (on which a tiny Amithaba is shown in relief) and monk's robes, his hands in "Dharmachakra Mudra" (gesture of Teaching, or didactic posture), sitting cross-legged on a double lotus throne. Lacquered and gilt wood. China, early Ming Dynasty (1368-1644 A.D.). Height: 11" (27 cm). Old insect infestation in some small areas (no significant damage, no danger), three fingers partly missing on the left hand, and on the right hand one finger slightly chipped, otherwise very good condition. Such type of Buddha image is rather unusual and rare.
