| Statue of a lohan (Buddhist holy man), wearing monk's robes, in sitting posture. The statue was originally resting on an independent base, now gone. Wood, with traces of polychrome pigments. A tiny glass insert was originally put on each eye, but the one to the right is now missing. Two votive boxes at the back, the larger one open (lid missing). China, Ming Dynasty. Height: 11 1/2" (27 cm). The statue is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand. Very good condition despite its obvious old age. | |||||||||
