| Small mask of slightly unusual shape, with a striated conical coiffe, small forehead, incised eyebrows, small ears, downcast relief eyes pierced through, triangular nose, open rectangular mouth showing teeth, small chin. Wood, dark-brown glossy patina, remnants of kaolin in the recesses. Africa, R.D. Congo, Pende peoples, Early 20th Century. Height: 10 1/4" (26 cm). The mask is nicely mounted on a custom metal stand which enhances its strange beauty. Obvious signs of use and age, otherwise very good condition. A fine piece. | ||||||||||||
