A continental neo-classical window bench, 40" wide, 16" deep, 24" high (to the top rail; 16" to the seat top), the close-nailed padded seat covered in yellow- and beige-banded silk, the seat rail with a cane twist motif, the seat flanked by leaf-tip carved fluted uprights and stretchers, on tapering leaf-tip carved fluted legs headed by carved flowerhead paterae; late eighteenth century. A cast iron paper and book press on a fitted pine case, the press 11 1/2 high, 17" long, 10" wide, the stand 32" high, 21" long, 20" deep, the press of screw type, weighing approximately 90 pounds, with the impressed mark "Muir's Warranted" and apparently of late 19th century or early 20th century manufacture, in good working order. LOCKWOOD DE FOREST. Stencil design for a brass sheet, produced by Indian craftsmen in the employ of De Forest in the late nineteenth century, 13 1/4" x 9 1/2", on cream wove paper. Slight wear to the sheet, a few short tears within the image, a small piece missing from one floral element. De Forest kept an order book of such paper stencils, from which clients could select designs to be made in thin brass sheets.
