Needlework panel, 14" x 11 3/8", worked in browns, blues, beige and salmon pink, of a woman kneeling within an archway supported on either side by a column, multiple-ruled framing border left and right, the composition surmounted by a cherub flanked by scrolled ornaments, a cartouche-like decoration between the column bases at the foot of the composition. LOCKWOOD DE FOREST. Stencil design for a brass sheet, produced by Indian craftsmen in the employ of De Forest in the late nineteenth century, 13 1/4" x 9 1/2", on cream wove paper. Slight wear to the sheet, a few short tears within the image, a small piece missing from one floral element. De Forest kept an order book of such paper stencils, from which clients could select designs to be made in thin brass sheets.
