| MARY SPENCER NAY. "Dune Country." Oil, rice paper, gold leaf and silver leaf on canvas, 26" x 48", monogrammed within the composition lower right, signed, titled and dated ("1961") on the stretcher. Some foxing to the handmade Japanese paper. In the original 4"-wide attractive wood frame. Provenance: estate of Constance Clark Willis, Nay's colleague at the Louisville Art Center Association School. "Dune Country" was one of 24 paintings in Nay's November 1961 Louisville Art Center Association exhibition. The "Louisville Times" review of the exhibition (Nov.3, 1961) includes a photograph of "Dune Country," the artist standing alongside it. The reviewer noted that "Most of these works have been done in the last two summers at Provincetown, Mass." Mary Spencer Nay, born 1913 in Crestwood, KY.
