| An ELLGREAVE POTTERY COMPANY HANDPAINTED CHARACTER TEAPOT, 5" high, 9" long (handle extremity to tip of spout), 6 1/2" wide (maximum), the matched, back-to-back, blue-coated, seated figures holding mugs, their broad-brimmed hats forming a portion of the rim, vertical raised sides, removable knobbed lid. Manufacturer's printed mark on the underside, "Ellgreave Pottery Co. Ltd, England (in the round)," "Burslem" in the center of the circle thus formed, "Registration No. / 858300 / Hand Painted" printed below this. A barely visible fissure (from firing, we presume) is visible near the tip of the spout, a second fissure visible on the inside of the spout near the tip. There is a 1/2" x 1/4" chip with a maximum depth of 1mm. on the underside of the low raised foot of the teapot, that is, this defect to the underside is visible only when the teapot is turned over. As well, there are a few minor scratches (maximum 3mm. long) to the lid, on the black which forms a portion of either gentleman's hat. | ||
