| Wrought iron table lamp, 15 3/4" high (inclusive of base), 9 1/2" wide, 9 1/2" deep, the attached wrought iron base measuring 1 1/2" high, 8 1/4" long, 4 1/2" wide, the four flaring triangular sides' 3/4"-wide planished walls enclosing narrow paired V-shaped elements, the pyramidally-shaped double-tier iron shade with scalloped edges, the lower tier's sides planished, on a scroll-footed base with incurved sides, continental wiring and plug, low wattage light bulb. Fine patina. Unmarked. Undated, but mid-1920s. Fine, original condition. The underside of the shade is white-painted. A two-inch high, pyramidally-shaped element rises at the base where the four sides meet, to a sharp point; the large screw (its head visible on the underside of the base) that helps secure the base to the lamp proper is apparently driven into this two-inch high pointed element whose functional purpose is elegantly and discreetly masked. The electrical cord is approximately 65 inches long, the in-cord on / off switch approximately 12 inches from the lamp base. Not having the appropriate wall plug, we cannot say whether the wiring is in working order; it appears to be in the same fine condition as the lamp. This lamp is designed to the highest standards of the period, its oriental elements combined with significantly French ones (hand planishing, sinuous outlines and strong geometry) to yield a richly exotic decorative object. | |||||||||||
