Folk Art Decorated Coffee Pot
FOLK ART DECORATED COFFEE POT. A Manning-Bowman and Co. electric percolating coffee pot, 8 3/4" high (with feet), 9 1/2" wide (from the spout end to the extremity of the handle), 4 1/2" diameter (at mouth), the entire body of the coffee pot (not its lid, however) covered with an approximately 3/16"-thick adhesive coating (completely hardened), into which are fastened an artistic network of dozens of metal, glass, plastic and natural objects: metal blossoms, a bracelet, glass, colored rhinestones, a brooch, earrings, a crucifix (its chain tightly gathered around it to form a diamond), a plastic eye, marbles, shells, a beaded chain, letters of the alphabet, metal flotsam and quantities of plastic pearls, the wall adapter similarly decorated; the pot stands on the manufacturer's three 3/4"-high feet, wood handle. The manufacturer's name is incise-printed on the circular metal plate constituting the underside of the coffee pot, where voltage, wattage, catalog number and serial number ("2-51," this perhaps being the date of manufacture) are to be found, as well as instructions for replacing the coffee pot's fuse. As to losses: a 1 1/4" x 1" (max.) piece of the adhesive undercoating (along with whatever decorations it held) is missing from the base of the pot, as is a 1 1/2" x 1/4" piece adjacent to the first loss; small areas of adhesive missing from the base of the pot, at the spout end and at several parts of the vessel body; what we assume are numerous plastic pearls are missing, as evidenced by the hemispherical cavities once holding them, particularly around the circumference at the top of the vessel and along the spout. Lacking the stem / bowl insert for holding ground coffee.
