| These miniature banjo clock by Waltham are certainly one of highest quality 20th reproductions found. The Waltham Company was the leader in producing watches in America in the early 1900s, but they also made some clocks, including these collectible miniature banjo clocks. At 15" high, this was about half the 29" standard size banjos of the early 19th century. Waltham might have produced these to find further market for their popular 8 day jeweled lever clocks that were being installed as the first so-called "car clocks" in the early 1900s. Regardless of the reason, these beautifully finished cases with their hand reverse painted glasses, finely cast finials and brass parts were and still are very popular with collectors today. This example features the stem winding and stem setting, with the stem found extending down into the pendulum box and George Washington commemorative reverse painted tablets. There are losses to the pain on the throat glass and the brasses are not polished. RL* | |||||
