| An unusual and large solid mahogany English made storage chest, or commode, designed much like an apothecary. This may have been made for a purpose other than storage of medicines and spices, as the drawers are free of odor, wear and soil. Measures 47" X 55" X 18". There are about 24 separate drawers, each about 8" square with inlaid numbered disks and fitted locks (one lock is missing). Above is a dresser or gallery with a full length shelf supported by two turned wood columns. Made from choice mahoganies evidentially chosen for their high quality wood graining-- the top is one solid piece of mahogany. Probably late 19th century. | |||||
