Amillary sphere style garden sundial
A sundial in the armillary sphere style. Sometimes armillary sundials were made with numerous rings which early astronomers used to observe planets and stars. This simple version will tell time with the sun's shadow when set up correctly. The points of the engraved compass on the base need to be oriented correctly with the actual North. The columnar base, cast concrete, is associated, and the patinated sundial is not attached to the base, but instead attached to a heavy base. A great garden decoration. Probably either late 19th century of 20th century.
