| A delicate mid 18th century English wine glass produced for export to the Continent dating to c1750-60. The wide round funnel bowl has very unusual moulding in the form of large panels to the lower bowl and then two rows of beech nut type moulding above this. The delicate balustroid stem has a small inverted baluster to the shoulder and a larger basal knop; unusually the plain stem between the knops has an elongated tear air bubble. The glass has a high conical folded foot with rough pontil. High quality English lead glass and in perfect condition. Height: Just over 5 3/8 Rim Diameter: 2 3/8 Foot Diameter: 2 5/8 These glasses are rarely seen; particularly in their country of origin, which ties in with thier export status. There are few references in the texts regarding the type; however Barrington Haynes on p. 223 goes into some detail and identifies various distinctive features that are found on this glass. | ||
