A three kingdoms period globular jar on tapering footrim with two rows of nine rectangular holes, old Silla dynasty, c. 500 A.D.. There are traces of ash glaze on the neck and shoulders of this jar, in better condition than usual despite the centuries of burial. It measures 23cm high X 21cm diameter, or 9 inches X 8.25 inches. There is a small old chip to the footrim.

Coming from the Kaya kingdom along the south coast of Korea, this smoothly modeled jar dates to 400-500 A.D. It measures 21.cm high X 21cm diameter, or 8.5 inches X 8 inches. Its base is pierced with three small round holes. There are faint traces of kiln gloss on the shoulders. A small rim chip has an associated crack extending down the shoulder. It is part of a large group of early Korean stonewares from two private collections.

A gray stoneware bottle with flat base, domed top and a neck with flared rim on one side. The body has bands of small rectangular impressed dots and has extensive brick red and rust toned areas, suggesting it was recovered from a water-logged environment. It measures 32cm long X 19.5cm wide or 12.5 inches X 7.5 inches. A rare Korean gray stoneware cup, circa 500 A.D. Bearing traces of natural ash glaze, this high fired cup shows evidence of having been shaped on a potter's slow wheel. It measures 11.5cm high X 14cm wide across the handle, or 4.5 inches X 5.5 inches. There is a rim chip and slight degradation to the ash glaze areas. Similar cups are illustrated in Illustrated of Tokyo National Museum, Korean Ceramics, Earthenware and Stoneware, pls. 54-57, where they are listed as Kaya kingdom.

An elegant large early Korean dark gray stoneware jar with extensive areas of natural ash glaze, 36.5cm high, or 14 1/2 inches. There are impressed bands of short lines overall, where a wood paddle was used to shape and toughen the clay body. There are extensive areas of calcium adhesions overall and a small rim chip. A rare large scale Old Silla dynasty gray stoneware bowl raised on a high tapering footrim. The bowl and base are incised with bands of wavy lines. The base has two rows of five rectangular slots dividing these bands. There are burial adhesions on the base, rim and interior of the bowl. Measurements are 40.5cm high X 38.5cm diameter or 15 3/4 inches X 15 inches. There is a repair line around the base of the bowl where it meets the pedestal. Such large scale examples are quite rare.

A rare Korean stoneware maebyong with natural ash glaze on top, circa 1000 A.D.. Measuring 30.5cm or 12 inches high, the maebyong has five lobes and a cupped rim. This vessel has no damage other than a small chip on the mouthrim, visible in an image, and some degradation to the ash glaze from burial. Vases of this type date to the early Koryo period rather than late unified Silla.

A Korean stoneware maebyong decorated in underglaze iron-black, circa 1200. It has two large chrysanthemum or peony sprays on the sides and a band of petals around the short neck, all under an olive toned glaze. Measurements are 10 1/4 inches or 26cm high X 6 inches or 15cm diameter. There is a repaired break at the rim, visible in the images and small areas of glaze loss at the footrim.
