A finely made salt cellar modeled as a Japanese helmet. Marked Miyamoto, this object dates to about 1950. It measures 3" H X 3" W, or 7.5cm X 7.7cm. The helmet's top folds back to reveal the well for salt.

A finely cast Japanese silver box with the top modeled on a T'ang dynasty mirror. This box has the imperial crest on its lid, and is marked Tamaya on the base. It is 95% silver and dates to c. 1930. Measurements are 1" X 2.5" or 2.5cm X 6.4cm. It has been cleaned in the past and has become slightly tarnished since then.

A double-gourd sake bottle in the style of late Ming Chinese porcelain for the Japanese market, by Eiraku Sokusen, 20th century. A seal stamped just above the base reads Eiraku. Strongly influenced by shonzui wares, this bottle depicts boys playing in a garden with pinwheels and a large character. It measures 21cm or 8 inches high. No damage. No box

A Japanese hanging scroll format painting in ink and colors on silk, by Kogai Kawamura (1861-1932). Its style is heavily influenced by Chinese painting, especially the work of Lan Ying. This work has greenish-gold brocade mounting, bone rollers and an unmatching wood box. The mounting is in fine condition. The painting itself has slight foxing. A Chinese yixing or I-hsing stoneware model of a swaddled baby, c. 1935. This toy has a head rotating to show a contented and crying face. Enamel decoration includes flowers and a single bat. There are impressed fret bands and characters partly covered by the enamels. It is 4" high or 10.1cm and has a seal impressed on the lower back.

A Japanese ivory netsuke finely carved as a tumbler, by Ryoshu, circa 1950-1960. This model is signed in sunken relief between the small himotoshi. The carver is listed in Lazarnick p 886 as from Tokyo and active in the postwar period although born in 1912. Measurements are 2.6cm high X 3.3cm wide. This tumbler is part of an exhibition and sale at the Crane Gallery of netsuke, okimono and ojime. The netsuke are from three old private collections.

A Japanese fukusa or gift cover of dark blue silk embroidered with two hexagonal shell game boxes and five shells. Techniques uses are satin stitch, couched metal thread and silk cording and knot stitch. The obverse is an orange-red silk crepe. Measurements are 31 1/2 X 28n 1/2 inches or 80cm X 72.5cm. There are no losses or damages.

Japanese silk crepe kake fukusa or gift cover, circa 1930. Decorative techniques include resist and painted designs with tiny areas of gold thread embroidery. The celebratory design is a miniature Uba and Jo with pine, plum and bamboo, a crane and hairy tailed tortoise, all symbols of longevity and renewal. The obverse is a bright red silk crepe. A drunken shojo dances with a giant sake cup and dipper in front of a wine jar, while a seated shojo claps and sings, all by a lake shore. A Japanese gift cover or kake fukusa, heavy cream silk and gold thread, embroidered with cranes and pines, circa 1930. The cranes rock details and young pines have satin stitch and the water and clouds are couched metal thread. The dark green back has a couched gold thread crest. Measurements are 27.5 X 24.75 inches or 69.8cm X 62.8cm. There are no losses, stains, fading or tears.
