| Beautiful oil on canvas portrait of a woman by William J. Whittemore, 1860-1955. Approximately 20" x 16" WITH the frame which is new and 15 3/8" x 11 1/2" WITHOUT the frame. Signed lower left, Wm. J. Whittemore. It is a beautiful portrait of a woman with pearls and is in very good condition. William J. Whittemore, American 1860-1955. He was a painter and teacher. Born in New York, NY. He studied at the Nat. Academy of Design with William Hart and L. Wilmarth, Art Students League under Beckwith, Julian Academy, He was a pupil of Lefebvre and Constant in Paris. He was a member: Associate Nat. Acad. of Design, 1897; Amer. Water Color Soc; NY Water Color Club; Amer Soc. of Miniature Painters; Allied Artists of America; Society of Painters of NY; Salma Club, 1890; Lotus Club; Century Club; Amer. Fed. of Arts; Calif. Soc. of Minit. Painters. He won many awards throughout his career and his works are in various institutions. | ||||||||||
