| Wonderful Hungarian dinner plate in the famous "Victoria" pattern by the Herend Porcelain Company, circa 1860. This is one of many pieces that was part of the George Ware Collection. George Ware worked as an agricultural and educational adviser in the American Zone of Germany following World War II. His extensive Meissen collection was donated to the Smithsonian upon his retirement as well as many other porcelain collections donated to other institutions. His book has been a major source of reference on German and Austrian porcelain for many years. The dinner plate measures 10 inches and is in excellent condition. The hand painted butterflies and flowers are vibrant which is probably why Queen Victoria ordered a complete dinner service in this pattern at the Great Exhibition of 1851 at the Crystal Palace in London. | |||||||
