| Hollow cut american silhouette of Rufus Sikes, done in 1829 when he was 30 years of age. This portrait was cut by an unknown person know as "the letterpress artist of Connecticut" who used the letterpress technique to identify his sitters. The silhouette is mounted in a mahogany frame of the period, but may not be original to the silhouette. The silhouette is in very good condition, but the paper shows some discoloration as seen in the photo, possibly caused by being mounted in a mat. There is nice highlighting of the coat and white stock. This piece was found in Connecticut and measures 5" x 5 3/4" framed. | ||
