probably Nishimochida kiln, Edo period 19th century
Wheel thrown. Covered in black, dark brown and white glazes formulated so as to pull away from each other during firing. This created a mottled effect called 'dakatsu'( a firing technique which goes back to the 17th century). Over this rough and distorted surface delicate flowers and lattice work in overglaze enamels and gold. Heavily potted tall vase in hatchet-sheath shape. Wheel thrown. Slight spout formed on lip. An interesting subtle detail is the notches formed on the handles that correspond to the ringed notches on the body of the vase. The massive size of this vase reflects the taste of the Daimio for extravagant display. Yixing Qing dynasty circa 1875 height 10cm
An old prunus stump with a split in the bark showing the texture of the wood beneath. New young flowering shoots emerging on both sides. Spout and handle are branch forms. minor fretting to lid rim. a tiny chip on the upper edge(visible in photo). Chen Shing Hwa's book on Yixing ware (in Chinese) has a similar type of teapot(also with rim fretting) pages 97 and 98.

The pierced cover with a many flowered peony bush is delicately chased and inscribed. When the cover is removed the three covered boxes are revealed. Each of the three boxes are gilded in the center and are also chased and inscribed with individual scenes of flowers and butterflies. Yixing late 19th - early 20th century walnut height 3cm
A group of nine different seeds and nuts. Including chestnut, arrowroot, water chestnut,caltrop fruit, walnut and peanut. Each well modeled. Some painted, others remain the color of the clay. They can be displayed in the silk lined box or removed to be used as fingering objects for scholarly amusement. Unsigned.
