Japan 19th century Height 50.2 cm The basket is from the first half of the 19th century which was when many basket makers began signing their work. This basket has a bamboo liner.As is often the case this liner has split, however it continues to serve as a document for the basket. It has two signatures one of which is Mino Ya and a faint red seal of the artist Aoyama. The basket is made in the karamona style. They are typically from the Kansai area.

Japan 19th century Height 46 cm. Intricately woven with six pattern changes, each change is used twice resulting in twelve distinct bands. The two free hanging loop handles and attachment rings use two other changes. This makes a total of eight different weaving patterns. Adding to the visual interest of this basket is the use of five different widths of split bamboo. The outline shape and the free hanging loop handles are inspired from Chinese bronze vases of the Ming Dynasty. ...click for details

Height 50 cm. Width 28 cm. Japanese 19th century. Meiji period This ikebana container was made from bamboo tubes cut in half lengthwise then turned around before being lashed together side to side with vines. This exposed the inner nodes which now are an important part of the design. Only a few other examples of this type are known in collections outside Japan
