Japan late 19th century diameter 7.5cm.
It was the custom to have severaL kogos. The wisteria in full flower would have made this incense box perfect for use in the early spring. The leaves are beginning to fill out so we know the blooming season is almost over. The design gently trails off the lid and onto the container. Inside both the lid and container are two butterflys in the same colors as the wisteria and gilded. Most of the gilt signature has worn away.
