Puiforcat 1st standard silver box

An Emil Puirforcat French first standard (.950) silver round box with a gold washed interior. The surface of the exterior covered with engine turning and engraved wreaths punctuated with blossoms. 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm) diameter and 1 inch (2.5 cm) tall. Weight approx. 154 grams.

Marked on the interior of the lid with the first standard mark for after 1838, the “EP” touch for Emil Puiforcat and the number 2308. Around the rim of the bottom section are the makers mark and the first standard mark. The inscription in the center of the top is, “L von A.”

Condition: Some wear and dent in the edge of the top where it must have been dropped.

Nice hefty box with detailed decoration executed with the very high quality of the best French work.

The mark was registered in 1857 and the more famous nephew (Jean) continued to use the mark into the 20th century. The style of this box is from before 1900.
