This pair of whimsical fish cufflinks are a Hubert Harmon design, and, quite possibly, a pair of his buttons converted to links. Set with onyx eyes, they measure 1 1/4" x 1/2". Marked "Mexico Silver". Good condition.

PENDING 

Unfortunately, in the conversion from screwback to posts, these earrings, "knot and three beads",lost their hallmark. Ca. 1950's,in fine condition. 1" x 1 1/8". This design can be seen in Silver Masters of Mexico by Penny Morrill, p. 132.

This is perhaps the most popular of the Los Ballesteros designs. Outstanding in its simple, 1950's design of green bakelite polka dots set in a sterling hard bangle cuff. 1 1/4" at its widest, tapering to 1". It comes with matching, original screwback earrings measuring 1 1/8"L x 5/8"W. Excellent condition.

A beautifully crafted cuff by Los Castillo, ca 1950's. Ranked among the finest of the Mexican silversmiths, the Castillo brothers,Jorge, Miguel,Justo and Antonio, apprenticed at Las Delicias with William Spratling, until they formed their own company in 1939. Their designs are outstanding for their originality and the quality of skilled craftsmanship that characterizes them. The design of this piece is enhanced by the blue-green mosaic inlay which covers half the front and the top and bottom rims. It is appropriately hallmarked and in excellent condition. 1 1/2" at its widest, tapering to 5/8". Inside measurement: 6".

The cufflinks offered here would have to be ranked among the very rare of Harmon's designs. Any of this American designer's work is scarce and desirable to collectors of the Mexican school of silversmithing, which enjoyed a renaissance from the early thirties to the present. Harmon came to Mexico in 1940 where he opened a small shop. He his known for his clever, whmisical, totally original designs. These cufflinks are 1 3/4"L x 1/2"W. The head is a cabochon amethyst. Excellent condition. Hallmarked with Harmon's winged feet and stamp.

Salvador Teran, one of the Mexican silver master smiths, was working in the Spratling shop as early as 1934. He went on to open a shop in 1952 called "La India Bonita" which employed twenty-five silversmiths. This pair of earrings, stylized leaves with turquoise mosaic inlay, are of a thick gauge sterling (1/8"), 1 3/4"L x 3/4"W. They retain the original screwbacks, and are duly hallmarked. Excellent condition.

From the third design period, 1951-56, this rare pair of sterling conch earrings are accented with amethyst drops which cut accross the elegant, tapered swirl. Pictured on page 96 (fig.2-301)of Spratling Silver: A Field Guide, by Phyllis Goddard, and may also be viewed at www.spratlingsilver.com. They are appropriately hallmarked and include an Eagle 30 stamp. 1 3/4"L x 1/2"W. Excellent condition

This whimsical owl figurine by William Spratling, ca. 1950's, is indeed rare, and has not been found in any of the reference books on Mexican Silver. Made of a number of separate pieces of silver, the head, shoulders, wings and feet are shaped and engraved, over an onyx body. It stands 4"H x 6" circumference.
