Victor Gabriel is a Washoe Indian from the Lake Tahoe and Great Basin areas of California, working since 1975. He is an advanced silversmith whose esthetic of Native American is evidenced in his forms and lapidary work. This ring shows his skill as a goldsmith as well. A large opal is set in a gold bezel, framed by sugilite, coral and turquoise. The opal is 1"x1/2", size 7 1/4; excellent condition.
This is a superb example of Northwest coast silversmithing. Although it is signed J. Lyn, 89, I have no information on the artist. Note the applied gold eye of the bird. Measures 6 1/2" plus a 3/4" gap,
1" wide.
Jim Harrison, student of Preston Monongye and Jessie Monongye, has been active since l981 and has become well known and highly collectible for the beauty of his designs of combined materials of precision mosaic inlay.
