A superbly crafted wooden tray of Tocchi (Horse Chestnut), the top hollowed out and the bottom painstakingly textured and covered with natural clear urushi lacquer by woodworker Iwamoto Yasuo enclosed in the original signed wooden box and bearing an exhibition label on the base. It is 27 x 47 x 7 cm (10-1/2 x 18-1/2 x 3 inches) and is in fine condition, dating from 1985. Tocchi wood is highly prized for its intense grain patterns and the tiger-stripe effect in its surface.
