Very interesting dagger for East German Air Force general. Unissued and in original case. Comes with appropriate hangers and belt loop. East and West Germany were the respective countries used as front line proxy forces between the United States and Soviet Union during the Cold War. Really a neat piece from an important time in history.

These officer's bladed sword sticks were used from pre-revolutionary war through the war of 1812 as a means of back up defense when one ought to have been unarmed. This blade type was introduced in 1796 replacing the earlier 1786 pattern. It was similar to its predecessor in having a spadroon style form ( three hollow surfaces coming to a slender point ). This is a lovely Belgian Cavalry saber. German blade makers were very popular with many different countries at the time and this was most certainly a private purchase. The size is very comparable to the U.S. model 1860 cavalry saber so I would date this right around the mid 19th century.
