This Chinese hair comb was hand carved from a beautifully "grained" translucent animal horn.
Obtained from an ethnic minority person, the pair of ducks carved into the handle were commonly used by mainstream Han Chinese as a symbol of a long and happy marriage. Items with this symbol would often be gifted for an anniversary.

This nice horn carving of a vase (or cup) is 4 5/8” high, 2 ¾” wide and 1 ¾” thick. It depicts the theme of “Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove”, Chinese name Zhu Lin Qi Xian (竹 林 七 贤). As is traditionally depicted, the group of seven scholars, musicians and sages wished to escape the intrigues, corruption and stifling atmosphere of the court life during the political chaos of the Three Kingdoms period (220 AD~265 AD)...

This is an intricate Chinese carving of Dragon fighting off the serpent, symbolizing the good force fighting off the evil in oriental mythological context, a scrupture with deep meaning of upholding moral rightousness against wickedness. Nice patina and wonderful piece of carving from a mastercrafter.
This very well carved and polished horn carving of a Zun (Chinese traditional libation wine vessel) is an early or mid - 20th century product. It is 5 ½” high, 6 ½” wide and 3 ½” thick (both measured from the top), the round bottom is 2” in diameter. Twelve stylized Bixie (辟邪) and different ritual bronze patterns were deeply carved into the entire body. The artist’s name is illegibly carved on the bottom. It is in great condition.
