Cloisonné enamel charger or large dish with flowers and a flying bird against a mustard yellow ground, the back with a swirl pattern. Late Meiji or early Taisho, c 1900. Diameter "12/ 30.3 cm, height "1 ½ / 3.7 cm. Condition: a damage to the backside enameling (c f last photo). Interestingly, it shows the kind of marker used to indicate the design where the cloisonné metal straps were to be soldered onto the base. Offered is an excellent and well-preserved 18th Century enamelware box from the Bilston area, circa 1780. This box is enameled on the sides and bottom in a deep royal blue, and is painted in enamels on the front with a theme of doves at the nest and the words "Esteem the Giver" (the "f" being used for the "s" at this date)...

A very appealing 19th century Chinese cloisonne reclining dog decorated in green, red, white, yellow, and blue against a turquoise ground. Gold gilt on cloisens, collar, gourd shaped bell, paws, eyes, and tail. In very good antique condition, there are no chips or abrasions to the enameling. Measures 4 inches high x 4.25" long.

A small Bilston patch box, enamel on copper, mid-18th century, in a design somewhere between Rococo and Louis XVI: the outer shape softly rounded, the pattern more strict, of diaper type, textile-like. Patches, often in black silk, were used to conceal scars or blemishes from smallpox or other diseases. At the time Bilston, a town in West Midlands was famous for their enamel boxes. Width "1 ¾ / 4.8 cm. Condition: enamel flakes to lid and base (cf. pics).
