A beautiful sterling silver berry or casserole spoon in Whiting's desirable 1896 "Dresden" pattern. The handle is decorated on both sides with sprays of roses. The matte gilt bowl is scalloped and decorated with repousse beading and volutes. The spoon is stamped with Whiting's hallmark and has the patent date indicating an early date of manufacture.

Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, original gilding intact, sharp detail, no monogram. Size: 8-3/4" long. Weight: 87.0 grams.

Superb Georgian sterling silver swing-handle basket. The bottom of the basket is formed of a silver sheet stamped and pierced in an intricate grapevine motif. The sides, constructed of interwoven silver wire, rise from the base and are decorated with grape cluster appliqués. The rim suggests grape vines, as well. The swing handle is decorated at the top with another cluster of grapes and foliage. The whole is raised on acanthus leaf feet...

An elegant classic-style French silver tastevin of traditional form. The bowl is decorated with raised "perles", concave "cupules" and elongated "godrons" for assessing the depth of color in both red and white wines. The curved sides help concentrate the aroma, so only a very small amount of wine has to be poured to judge quality. The looped handle allows the tastevin to be worn suspended from a chain. Measures 9 1/2" high, and roughly the same from tip of spout to end of handle, base is 5 1/2" wide and 4 1/4" deep. Beautifully engraved with foliate and scrolling designs, an oval cartouche on each side. Beading at base and top, bone finial, bone inserts on handle. Handle wobbles a bit, but is firmly affixed with visible wire. Lid fits tightly, no leaks or damage. Base is well marked, and appears to date the piece to the period between 1842 and 1864...
