Description: Striking and well crafted Persian hand made silver dish, Decorated in high relief with scenes depicting Archaemennid king Darius fighting mythological beast and also Archaemennid's religious and monarchy's symbolic figures on center surrounded by engraved foliage. Turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau sterling silver bowl. Made by Meriden Britannia (part of International) in Meriden, Connecticut. Oval well surrounded by wide and irregular shoulder with scrolled and whiplash eddying water—a whirlpool made more dangerous by the beckoning Lorelei. Well has engraved script monogram D.
