From our European Collection, a very fine Federal Giltwood Pier Mirror, early 19th century circa 1800-1820, featuring a looking glass surmounted by a good maritime scene, bordered on top by a pair of angels exquisitely rendered in gilded gesso suspended beneath an overhanging cornice, and flanked by gilded ribboned columns on the sides.

I couldn't resist this precious European "Post Box"w/brass escutcheon and slot for your name or address…And it's own little key! The wood has beautiful patina and one side has little wormwood holes(but they've left the scene long ago)and the glass window is intact.Just looking at it takes me back to a gentler time ,when we looked forward to our mail !! A wonderful stepped top tea caddy in a deep, rich color, set with silver stringing, ivory escutcheon, ball feet and knobs, and a working key. It dates from around 1825, and is 6 1/2" tall, 6 1/2" wide, and 4" deep.
The condition is superb, with no cracks, veneer loss or repairs. The deep green velvet lining to the inside of the lid might be a replacement, as is the metal lining the interiors of the compartments, both of these being of totally negligible import.

Very unusual 19th C burl snuff box with hidden hinge, featuring a nun with rosary beads and prayer book kneeling before a cross. The cross and altar look vaguely Russian or Baltic. The scene was enameled at one time, but it has mostly worn off. Lined with tortoise shell or horn. Fabulous design; good condition. Measures 2 3/8" by 1 1/4".
