DESCRIPTION: An early 19th C. three door country New England corner cupboard in original dark blue paint with reddish trim. The interior is washed with a pale green milk paint and has three shelves in the upper portion and storage space in the bottom. Two door panels have age cracks to the wood. Absolutely beautiful sofa in a variation of Belter's Rosalie pattern. It was made between 1850 and 1860 and is typical of Henry Belter's wonderful laminated furniture for which he is so famous. An unusual and dramatic firescreen abattant. It reminds me of some of the smaller, New York classical parlor furniture I've seen in Southern house tours with late Federal drawing and music rooms furnished with pieces imported by successful merchants - almost, but not quite, over the top in their design yet direct in their function. So an argument could be made for high, New York city style. And the inlaid oval in the center, with pie crimped edge, is reminiscent of some New England work...

Federal Mahogany swell front chest of drawers. Yellow pine and poplar secondary woods. Maryland, probably Baltimore, 1790 to 1810. This chest is similar in ways to an example in "Furniture in Maryland, 1740-1940", Weidman, 1984, item #77, page 123. On both, the top conforms to the bow front case, projecting a bit beyond the case. And both have nicely formed French feet, inlaid banding on the drawers and above the skirt, and inlaid chevrons centering the escutcheons...

Beautifully decorated curio cabinet with serpentine glass door, and curved glass sides. The marquetry is beautifully done, with a basket of flowers on the door, and flowers on the side and trim. A rare and wonderful American doll or child's bench, with a shaped crest rail over 3 spindles and a plank seat, with 6 turned legs. The crest rail and the seat are decorated with polychrome free-hand flowers. Those areas, and the splayed arms, spindles, and central leg also have gilt line borders or decorative motifs.

This rope bedframe has warmth which only time and wear can give. It has head and foot boards with some extra touches such as spool posts and turned legs. Beautifully made walnut American Victorian night stand with marble top. Made and signed under the marble by R. Renwick & Son of Baltimore, Maryland. R. Renwick was a cabinet maker to the wealthy, (see article in photos) and his workmanship was the finest in the area. The measurements on this table are 31" tall x 17 1/2" wide x 17 1/2" deep.
