A puzzling stone carving that SC bought in large estate with antiquities.

The stone ┬┤carving is a fragment of a larger structure and with the carving of a beautiful african head and a couple of lizzards. The style and fine patina, does indicate an ancient date of manifacture. Likely Western Africa.

African ibeji twin carved wooden figures, Yoruba people, Nigeria. Both with striated upswept coiffures and beaded embellishments. These are a pair with the same tatoos on their bellies, male and female.

Superb rich patina. The Yoruba figures on the market are normally never old. Here we have a set of twins, very old, likely from the 19th. century.

Size: 27,6 and 30 cm.

Ex. Collection of Mr. Sunde.
Probably the work of a master carver of the Abeokuta region.

Antique wooden mask or headdress, Nigeria, Yoruba tribe, 18th.-19th. century or earlier.

This mask is huge topped with a bird, that carries a snake on it's back.

This mask is very old, guaranteed pre 1900, but we believe it's rather 18th. century or early 19th. century.

Condition: Intact, but some cracks repaired, that can be spotted from the inside. The wood is dried out due to it's high age.
