19th century Chinese bronze f plaque with low relief depiction of a dragon in flight over among swirling clouds above cresting waves, as it exhales its fiery breath towards a monster fish. Very nice crisp work, beautiful patina. Set into original rosewood frame carved as scrolling vines with gourds and leaves. 19th century small Indian bronze votive sculpture of monkey god Hanuman with his hands in praying gesture in front of him, and his tail forming a loop behind him. Hanuman personifies ingenuity and faithfulness - his strength and courage helped Rama to defeat Ravana. Cast in Maharashtra, wonderful casting (see his body in strong S-shaped atibhanga flexion at the waist) and detailing, great patina. Height 2.5 inches.
Japanese Shino ware ceramic chawan or tea ceremony bowl. Shino ware is easily identified by thick white glazes, red scorch marks, and a texture of small holes. One side of the bowl has dark brown underglaze design of flowers while the opposite side has flecks and lines, along the dramatic ribbed edges of the body. The foot of the bowl is formed flattened and is left bare without any glaze.

There are a total of eight signs, each with a different "saying" having to do with well wishes. Due to the age of the calligraphy, and the vagueres of the old Chinese language, accurate translations have not been possible for each sign. Each sign is carved out of wood with raised wooden characters and inlayed with MOP flakes. Each is 21 inches tall and roughly 4.5 inches wide. Elegant, fine celadon porcelain flower vase dated Meiji Period 33 (c.1900). The delicate mouth and wings have buddhist cloud motif, and the legs have a juxtaposition of fading colors.
