An exceptional Moche Bat vessel from Peru, ca. 400 - 700 AD. This fine canchero type effigy is 6-3/4" high, 7" wide and depicts a bat in flight. His finely detailed face is highly expressive, displaying rows of sharp teeth in the open mouth and the legs are carved in low relief. A rare type, in excellent condition, with good paint and mineral deposits.
This scarce piece is a Mayan cylinder vessel that dates circa 600-900 A.D. This superb piece is approximately 9 inches high by 7 inches in diameter at its central axis. This light brown, tan, red, and black polychrome piece depicts three stylized Mayan ballplayers dressed in full regalia, and between, there are three red and black "I-shaped" symbols. The three stylized Mayan ballplayers are also designed slightly different, and may represent three different individuals who played the game...
