An above average large/thick Ushabti, Third Intermediate Period, 21/22th dynasty (ca 1085-713BC)
A blue-green faience shabti, wearing the headband and two hoes. Inscribed shabti with clear hieroglyphs at the lower front. Details are added in black.
Size: 105 mm. tall and comes with it's old wooden base, 16,6 cm. total.
Condition: Choice with intact painted details and nice patina. Much uncleaned deposits.

This is an authentic Ushabti figurine from ancient Egypt, dating back to the period between 1200 and 300 BC. The figurine is made of turquoise glazed faience and is decorated with black hieroglyphic inscriptions. The Ushabti was a funerary figurine that was placed in tombs to serve and accompany the deceased in the afterlife. This particular Ushabti is a remarkable example of ancient Egyptian artisans' intricate and beautiful craftsmanship...
Interesting Egyptian shabti inscribed with black hieroglyphs reading: “The Osiris Pa-mel”.
The figurine wears a tripartite wig and holds agricultural implements in the crossed hands.
The modeling is crude as with other known examples, the back is flat. Thin greenish glaze on a white crumbly body material. Details of the face and inscription in black.

The winged scarab was also a common motif on mummy masks and coffins, representing rebirth. Along with the 4 Sons of Horus, it too would have been placed on the beaded netting, usually placed over the heart.
