An incredible Japanese antique Kanazawa kaidan staircase, with hand quartered sawn keyaki drawer fronts and black sliding door framework. Mixture of sliding compartments and pullout drawers. Attached original hand rail that is very unusual. Stunning original lacquered reddish orange coloration. Overall the chest is in excellent original condition with everything working just as it should.

Large rosewood display chest, made in China for export to Japan, beautifully inlaid with scenes of flowers, insects, birds and a frog, many shelves for display, one drawer, cabinet doors open to compartment with two shelves, late 19th century c1900. Size: 68" high x 48 3/4" wide x 17 3/4" deep.

Japanese antique small single section mizuya tansu (kitchen chest), hinoki (Japanese cypress) wood frame, with beautiful keyaki (elm) wood drawer fronts, three compartments with sliding panels all with black lacquer frames: top sliders with keyaki wood panels, middle sliders with textured glass, bottom sliders with glass backed by wooden lattice work; 6 drawers of various sizes, warabite shaped drawer pulls, Taisho Period. Size: 43 1/4" high x 32" wide x 13 7/8" deep.

Japanese antique large bench carved all over with dragons in swirling clouds, a total of 8 dragons, large oni demon face and birds flying over waves on apron just below seat, seat lifts up for storage, a beautiful and dramatic piece, Meiji Period. Size: 46" high x 57" wide x 23" deep.

Antique Japanese red over black lacquer low table with negoro finish. It is decorated with incised scrolling leaves and floral design, scallop legs, circa 1910. It measures 35.5" wide 35.75" long 13.25" tall.

Meiji Period (1868 - 1912)

An antique Japanese kuruma tansu coming from the Mikuni region. The tansu is fitted with iron fittings to retain the condition of the tansu and to protect the vulnerable areas of the chest. The tansu has two wooden bars to lock the drawers of the chest. The chest is made from keyaki wood. Age: 19th century. Size: height 48" width 28.75" length 53.25"

A sublime square japanese export table decorated with scrolling clouds, flora, and rising dragons. The intricate and detailed carvings were popular during the Meiji period when most of Japan's fine arts and crafts were being exported to the West. This table would have been produced for the Western market at the time. Age: Meiji Period Size: Length 19" width 20.5" height 31"

A four drawer lacquered gyosho tansu. The tansu has metal work advertising the medicine the peddling merchant was selling. The medicine, soge-nuki kusuri (written on the box) aids in removing splinters. The medicine was made by Shiota Nadaya Juzaemon who was based near Takabashi, Shinbashi in Osaka city. Age: Late Edo to Meiji Period Size: Length 13.25" Width 17.75" Height 30"

Japanese antique couch, elaborately carved with coiling dragons, curving arms are carved in the form of two dragons, the seat is fitted with a cushion covered in silk brocade with a Chinese design, Meiji Period. Size: 41 1/4" high x 49" wide x 22" deep. (the seat is 42" wide x 16/17" deep.)

Japanese wooden Money box, Coin Box used in Shrine or Temple Prayer's Alter, later part of Meiji period, late 1800's, 10" high, 10" wide, 15 1/2" deep, with black wrought iron lock compartment, round flower shape button slide from left to right to open. The top front section lift up and open the box, there are round coin slot and paper money slot on top. This is all original condition and some scratches on wooden surface, no major damage.

Japanese gyosho bako or "peddler's box"/ship box, made of kiri and sugi wood, with iron hardware, handle on top, front door with a pin locking mechanism, which opens to reveal four rectangular drawers and two locking compartments, each with iron handle. Edo period (1603-1867) Size: 15.5" height, 13" width, 17.25" depth

Antique Japanese storage tansu with locking bar, made of sugi (cryptomeria) wood with original deep reddish translucent lacquer finish, two large drawers lock by vertical locking bar with beautiful heavy iron hardware of a koi jumping up a waterfall, the drawers themselves have square iron handles and corner reinforcements in the form of raised seed pods...

Antique tansu made from kiri wood, with heavy iron hardware, kakute shaped drawer handles, a locking bar to keep the three middle drawers secure, iron locks with flower design on two bottom drawers, one small and one large, and one small drawer with a kan or ring-shaped drawer pull. Rare and beautiful Japanese gyosho bako (merchant's box carried on back) with three sections. It is made of a kiri (paulownia) wood with original dark finish, the front of the box has ornate bronze hardware in the shape of chrysanthemum petals, locks and extensive back bracing all made out of iron. It features a top drawer with a kakute handle and two hinged doors opening to five smaller drawers with ring shaped pulls...

Beautiful kiri wood isho (clothing) tansu chest, originating from the Mikuni region of Japan. It features iron hardware with heart motifs, five drawers with hirute shaped handles and elegant backings and locks, and a bottom corner lockbox with two small drawers hidden inside. Japanese wooden chest with a black lacquered body and iron handles on its front and back side, and red lacquered lid. The chest's top and sides are decorated with a gorgeous mother of pearl inlay in the shape of a kiri leaf, from the Tokugawa family. Antique Japanese Ko Tansu made from a deep red chestnut wood (Kuri), with a black lacquered front frame, three large drawers with iron hirute handles mounted on carved backplates and a large center iron lockplate with pierced heart designs, and two small side drawers with kan (ring) pulls on flower shaped backplates.

Antique Japanese todana mizuya (kitchen cabinet) made from a beautiful keyaki burl wood in reddish brown hues, with two sets of sliding panels, 8 drawers in varying size, and one pull-out panel with a ring handle. It has a very interesting and unusual form, with slats running down its sides and back. The inside of the top set of sliding panels has an aged sheet of paper marked with kanji. Edo age, circa 1870 Size: 49.75" height, 39" width, 18" depth
