Rare and Finely Engraved 19th Century Korean Paktong Cup. There are three sections of beautiful engraving, each section separated by a highly stylized 'happiness' character. The deer, pine tree, and rocks are symbols of longevity, the phoenix is a symbol of peace and prosperity, and the pair of sparrows are a symbol of love. Paktong looks like silver, but it is actually a copper alloy with nickel and zinc. 2w x 1.5h inches, 5h x 4h cm.

All three are beautiful examples of each time period, with wonderful forms and great patinas. This is a most unusual form of padlock from Korea. It is constructed of a dark silvery patina made from what appears to be a bronze alloy material. The lock measures 7 1/2" long by 1 5/8" wide by 3 1/3" thick and weighs just under two pounds. We date it to the mid 18th to mid 19th century, Joseon Dynasty (1392–1897). It has excellent patina and has no damages or other issues. It locks and opens with ease.

The padlock has a very intricate engraved design on the two sides...
