They represent two out of the Three Friends of Winter (pine, bamboo and plum) celebrated for the fact that they do not wither as the cold days deepen into the winter season unlike many other plants. Large terracotta bull with prominent horns and a pronounced hump on the back. The holes for the wheel axles on the integrated base are indicative of a child's toy.
Also the small hole at the very front of the base, which was used to attach a pull cord.

These compact matching diminutive Chinese porcelain covered jars pack a lot of color power, decorated as they are in the Famille Jaune palette depicting warriors in combat, one mounted on horse with spear, the others with swords and shields. The flaring base is decorated with multicolored diaper, the shoulder with flowers on a hatched design. The cover is mounted with a small foo dog. The sensuous baluster form and sinuous lines are quite pleasing, and the small form adds even more appeal...
