As a result of the glass tax introduced in 1745 measures were taken to reduce the weight of drinking glasses and therefore the tax payable. One innovation was the hollow stemmed glass and this is such an example. Dating to c1760 this finely made glass has a drawn trumpet bowl however the completely hollow stem is a separate piece; mounted on a slightly conical and broad foot with rough pontil. Lead glass. Perfect. Height: 6 Rim Diameter: 2 1/2 Foot Diameter: 2 7/8 Rarely available.

You can see where the foot has been touched by a tool during production. Other than that; fine. A rare Georgian multiple spiral air twist wine glass dating to c1755. The pan top bowl with thick sided walls and base with period engraving of fruiting vine with polished detail to the grapes. This is a tremendous glass and dates to c1765. An opaque twist goblet with a capacious ovoid bowl mounted on a double series opaque twist stem comprising an inner lace twist and a pair of eight ply outer spiral bands; leading to a wide and substantial conical foot with rough pontil. This is a gorgeous antique victorian cut crystal squared barbell knife rest or knife holder with hallmarked sterling silver rings for WHS London 1864. The waffle, diamond and star cut crystal knife rest measures 3.75 inches high by 1 inch square ends with a tapered middle.
