Leather Purse with Ivory Panel Sides

This fragile, Victorian tidbit is a leather and paper purse sandwiched between two panels of ivory, which form the outside of the tiny purse. The purse measures 3" x 2 1/8". The front ivory panel is decorated with a intaglio carved floral panel. Likely this is French and dates from c. 1870. Condition is tentative.

A small ANTIQUE brass and enamel buckle. Circa 1910. The buckle is in two parts that hook together. Each half is formed as a modified heart (or leaf?) with scrolled edges and is centered with a diamond pattern decoration of turquoise and white enamel. The buckle would be suitable for a narrow ribbon or thin leather sash or belt. It measures 3/4 inch in height by 1 5/8 inches across when hooked together. Forty-eight beautifully faceted French Jet stones sparkle on this antique buckle set. French jet, as you know, is a form of black glass created to imitate English Whitby jet, when supplies of the latter were depleted by the 19th century passion for mourning jewelry. The buckle measures 2 1/4 inches tall and 3 inches wide (when closed) and was probably made in the 1860s or 1870s.
