We are not sure the country of origin of this antique coin silver wine tasters cup. The coin in the center depicts the face of a man with a beard with a crown on his head. The back has a lion with a crown and tall cross with flag. The cup measures 4 and one half inches across by 1 and one half inches high. There is a wonderful etched design both inside and out. A COIN SILVER TABLESPOON by GEORGE AIKEN. Baltimore, Maryland, circa 1795. The terminal features a finely engraved monogram "ASP" in feathered script. The maker's mark: "G.Aiken" (in script within an elongated oval) is worn but legible. There are a few dents in the bowl and with wear to the edges consistent with age, nevertheless, still a nice example of this maker's work. A fabulous piece, a very rare one by the famous Medallion silversmith John Wendt. Length 11" Width 3.5" It has detailed engraving, mint condition, covering the entire 5" long blade and the pointed fingers. It has a monogram on the back. It is marked 925 Ball, Black & Co. who was the retailer. Wendt did not mark his pieces with a mark of his own. This is an unusually heavy piece, well balanced. The condition is excellent. Date - prior 1865.
